When you're building a layout before the real copy exists, you need something to fill the space. This generator produces as much placeholder text as you ask for ? a few words for a heading, a couple of sentences for a card, several paragraphs for an article template ? so you can see how a design holds up with actual text flowing through it.

Lorem Ipsum is scrambled Latin, and that's the point. Because you can't read it, your eye assesses the shape of the text ? line length, spacing, how a paragraph sits in its container ? instead of getting drawn into the content. Fill a mockup with real sentences and everyone in the room starts editing the words rather than reviewing the design.
It has one blind spot worth knowing about. Lorem Ipsum has fairly even word lengths, so a layout that looks balanced with it can break when the real copy arrives with a long compound word or a much shorter heading. Before you sign off on a design, it's worth dropping in a sample of the actual text ? especially for headings, buttons, and anything in a fixed-width space. And never let placeholder text reach production: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" appearing on a live page is a classic and very visible mistake.
