What EXIF Data Reveals

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata that cameras and phones write into a photo when it's taken. It can include the date and time, the camera or phone model, and the exposure settings used ? shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and focal length. Photographers use it to review how a shot was made.

It can also include GPS coordinates. That's convenient for organizing your own photo library, but it means a photo shared online may reveal where it was taken ? often someone's home. Many social platforms strip this data on upload, but not all do, and files sent by email or messaging apps usually keep it intact. Checking before you share is a good habit.
